Our 2010 Costume Drives
are Now Under Way!

Halloween is one of the most important events in a young child’s life.  It provides lifelong memories, develops self-worth and allows kids to play an active role in their community.  Unfortunately, many children are unable to participate in this fun, annual experience because they do not have a costume.

Developed by then 11-year-old Emma Rose Shapiro in 2008, the mission of The Halloween Helpers is to collect previously-enjoyed, gently-used Halloween costumes and donate them to children who may not typically be able to participate in this yearly celebration.

In 2010, The Halloween Helpers is partnering with Philadelphia’s John Wister School to distribute costumes to children in this deserving community.

We are in Need of the Following
Types of Halloween Costumes:

  • Clean, gently-used costumes
  • Infant through adult sizes
  • Individually bagged
  • Labeled with the following information: gender, size, type
  • Complete costumes only (What is a pirate without his eye patch? What is a princess without her crown?)

Check the “Collections Sites/Dates" section of our Web site to find out where we will be holding a costume drive in your community!

Interested in Becoming a
Costume Collection Site?

The Halloween Helpers will provide you with all of the materials you'll need to conduct a safe and rewarding costume collection, including:

  • A 40-gallon corrugated cardboard box (dimensions: 18 ½ x 18 ½ x 30 ½”)
  • Colorful signage to attach to the box
  • Flyers/handouts for collection dates/times, volunteer opportunities, etc. that you can adapt to meet your own needs.  Distribute them electronically or as printed pieces.  Visit the "About Us/Forms" page for downloadable files.
  • Directional signage
  • Location address, collection dates and times, and directions listed on our Web site.

Would You Like to Help More?

We are looking for volunteers to help distribute and gather collection boxes, sort and bag costumes, and help distribute costumes at the John Wister School in late October.
